Dell's 3008WFP Widescreen LCD Display Debuts @ CES

I'm a bit late on this, so you've probably already seen it in places like Gizmodo or HotHardware, but Dell's 3008WFP 30" widescreen is available for order, at a starting price of $1999. So, what's the big deal? Peformance and connectivity. It's our second first monitor that features DisplayPort technology. Besides that, it also features HDMI, DVI, VGA, component, S-Video and composite video, plus it also has stereo audio and subwoofer output ports.

This picture from the 3008WFP product page on Dell.com shows the ports pretty clearly:

Besides connectivity, it's pretty solid on the feature list: 2560 x 1600 native resolution, Dell TrueColor technology (it's our first panel to reproduce more than 100% of the NTSC color gamut), an 8ms response time, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. From a design perspective, it features a brushed aluminum housing, a glass base stand, and a Dell-patented cantilever arm that provides great flexibility in terms of height adjustability, swivel and tilt.

Here's a vlog that features Bruce Montag, who is one of our key technologists working on DisplayPort. He gives you an inside look at the technology and also gives a good overview of the 3008WFP display as well.

How much is... big this monitor? What are the measures in cm?
Aaron said:

Just a rough estimate using 2.2 cm per inch, it is 66 cm measured on the diagonal. It has a 16x10 aspect ratio, so the screen is about 56 cm wide and 35 cm tall.

Hope that helps.

The Ogg movie download seems to be corrupt or broken...

That's an extremely impressive monitor, feature-wise, and I'm sure, performance-wise as well. If only it would have LED backlighting as well! :)

Too bad it's so high-res; there's no graphics cards available today that could run a modern game at that kind of resolution. Bit of a bummer, really. But I suppose there'll be a 24/20 inch version as well eventually...

Hi Lionel,

What type of panel is in this monitor? I need 30", and it stops me.

If it is close to LM300W01 (the panel of 3007WFP), I will buy 3007. If it is new, I will buy 3008.

I know several other guys who do not give money to Dell waiting for this info (and choice).

Thanks in advance.

LValentin, as far as I am aware,  there is an onboard chip that can scale down the resolution without to much loss in picture quality (which is the downfall LCD monitors) so you should be able to could use it at 1920x1200 (and lower ) no probs.

The specs/ connectivity certainly look impressive.

There are a few reviews out on the net already;  the latest one that I've read says that it's a great monitor f you're a photographer, or have other uses for the wide color gamut but does not rate it for games and is let down in other areas.

Read the review here:

I would like to know availability dates and pricing for UK please.

Cheers

this thing is nice :)

will there be equally well equipped substitutes for the 2007 and 2407 models too? because the current selection of 20" and 24" widescreen monitors is not really fulfilling... none with pivot and other niceties the 2007 and 2407 models had...

Awesome. Just a shame I'm not likely to be buying any new kit for a while.

We have a few questions, on this monitor’s capabilities w.r.t. HDMI v1.3.

Specifically, does the 3008WFP support these capabilities:

a.       Deep Color™ modes – we need support for 1080p / 12 bits per pixel.  The clock rate for this resolution is 225 MHz; the data rate is 2.2275 Gbps.

b.      xvYCC color space standard
