IdeaStorm Site Maintenance on 12/13

Today at 6:30 p.m. CST IdeaStorm will undergo regularly scheduled site maintenance. We don't expect the site to be unavailable for more than 5 minutes.

Today's release will include an enhancement to navigation of the comment pagination feature we deployed several weeks ago.  Based on feedback from the community, and specifically, a recent idea posted by IdeaStorm user  cosmichellion (and in part, a previous idea posted by kenjennings), we are adding a page navigation feature at the top of the comments sections.  Prior to this release, page navigation was available only at the bottom of the comments pages.  Now users have the choice of skipping to different pages from either the top or the bottom of the page they are on.  We hope this helps you quickly get to the comments you want to see.

Does it fix the problem with the comment notifications bringing you to the first page of comments?  It has been complained about many times as it is a major pain and waste of bandwidth having to click the last page of comments when it should have brought you there to begin with.

Any time line on any other site updates?  Not looking for exact just weeks out or months out.

Alerts in recent replies will still bring you to the first page of the idea. No exact time line for the other site updates, but we will keep you posted!

I thought this was just an update to fix the page number issue and some other minor changes?  Seems Dell has decided to take away the ability to edit ideas and comments as well.  Don't you think it might have been something to mention?

Well since it is already done you have some work to do in order to clean up the mess you have made.

1. Remove the DELETE REQUESTS category because it is now useless.
2. Edit the moderator updates in relation to the Delete requests and editing ideas and comments.
3. Allow me to edit my Tip section idea they link too, so I can remove the sections about editing comments, editing ideas and the DELETE requests category.
4. Make a new moderator update to explain the changes.

The ability to edit ideas and comments has been restored. This was a new feature added to the code on Friday afternoon, and I was told that it would not be the default setting. I'm sorry for the confusion and inconvenience. This change was not done intentionally by Dell. It is, however, an option that a future IdeaStorm manager may choose to use.

Thank you for the clarification but I am concerned with your comment about the possibility that it may be used in the future.  Seems like a hint that it is being planned.  That and the fact that since IdeaStorm is the beta test for the software there is no reason to add the functionality unless it was requested by Dell.

I would have rather seen them work on making the site functional than to add an option that limits it.  They need to fix the problem of when you add a link to a comment or idea it jumbles the post unless you add 2 spaces and a line before and after the link.  They could have given the option of changing your vote (the competition's software does it).  They could have added the function of having ideas linked together rather than merged as suggested on the site.  They could have added a usable search engine or spam scanner as many comments and ideas lately have been advertisements for websites.  There are many things they could have worked on instead of this and it is just frustrating to us.

As for the "future", I hope you are not hinting that you are leaving the site all together and are instead just focusing more on the behind the scenes work.  You have done well with the limited time and (beta) software you have been given so far.  It would be a shame for you to step away completely, unless Dell is offering you a big promotion of course.  :)
