Global Retail Strategy Continues to Evolve

As Dell continues connecting with customers around the globe, we're learning that some of them prefer to see and buy our products in retail stores. In May, Wal-Mart announced that we would be selling select desktops and notebooks there and in Sams Club stores. Initial response has been positive. Additionally, last week Carphone Warehouse in the U.K. announced it was providing its customers a Dell Inspiron notebook to those who purchase its high speed Internet service.

Today we're announcing we will be selling consumer desktops and notebooks through Bic Camera in Japan beginning in early August. In Bic Camera stores, customers will be able to buy our Inspiron 530 desktops, our Inspiron 1520 notebook, our Inspiron 6400 notebook and soon our XPS M1330 notebook.

These recent developments are just the beginning of a long-term retail strategy.

Maybe you should be more focused on your internet customer delivery before you think about expanding your retail channel....

"soon our XPS M1330 notebook."

Can't even deliver to those who ordered one and  now bragging that they'll be offered in Wal-Mart.

I will probably be able to buy a XPS 1330 in store before mine ships

Ah, so now we know where all the m1330s are going! ;o

Hi,

Do you/Dell offer the rivers for XP on your laptop model besides 1501?
I mean on the current laptop models you are selling, i.e. E1505 Dual
Core comes with Vista.  Can I format the laptop/uninstall Vista and
later download the XP compatible drivers from your website?

Thanks,
Shawn

If you haven't noticed the trend yet, Lionel...nobody really cares about your global retail initiative or your second tier....I mean...second life customer service.

Your paying customers want the products they paid for.  Address that first, as promised...then maybe we'll read about your tertiary initiatives with something resembling interest.  That is, assuming, you have a motivated customer base left to interest after this debacle.  Have you seen the forums?  5000 posts and counting at NBF.

Customer buys.

Company delivers.

 Everything beyond that is secondary.

I think that rather than advertising the fact that M1330s will be available to buy in-store, a little tact could have been used on behalf of the thousands of people who are still waiting NOT ONLY for this *promised* update on the whereabouts of our laptops, but also, more importantly - the laptops themselves.

Kaijin said:
Yeah how about you ship m1330's to the people that have ALREADY ORDERED AND PAID before putting them in retail stores. I've already been waiting a full month for mine.
Michael said:
Why dont you guys ship the m1330's to the people who ordered them first........

i totally agree, that post is really a spit in the face to customers who have been waiting. Hmmm an internet company now selling computers retail. well it worked really well for Gateway hopefully dell wont fall to the same pitfalls.

This is also not an update on the m1330s. Bassem88 is further displeased.

What a lame post.

This is a slap in the face.

I propose that everyone requisition Engadget to do a write up on the XPS m1330 debacle.  If we start to get some press behind this Dell will have no choice but to appease it's customer base.

Drop Engadget a line and encourage them to back us:

It's unwise to promise something to disgruntled customers, and then fail to provide it.

"soon our XPS M1330" ahhh sweet.

How will that work then? Will there be a voucher handed out to the customer after they have been billed and they will receive regular updates when their notebook won't be delivered?

I mean thats whats happening with the exisiting orders. I mean Dell is obviously not able to build this notebook.

I had LCD glass shortages, keyboard shortages, base shell shortages, bluetooth module shortages, 9cell battery shortage, webcam shortages, LCD shell shortage, fingerprint reader shortage and my favorite from Friday AC adaptor shortage. And thats only what i've been told over the last 2 weeks when asking if there will be any delays and why.

Then my order got pushed back another 30days. Currently Dell has a interest free credit of more then 2 grand from me. I actually like to see some refunds here, but my sales rep told me "I could give you 50 bucks off, but you have to cancel the order and rejoin the queue" thats cheeky isn't it? I start to believe that this was all just about generating revenue for the end-of-quarter reports rather then actually launching a product.

Besides my sales rep being one of the most unpleasant greedy, arrogant, snotty and barefaced bastards to deal with (thinking about that he most likely already received his HUGE bonus for selling a fully loaded m1330 last month because i paid in JUNE and is no longer interested in what the hell i'm getting out of this besides a a huge invoice.) this is one of my worst customer experiences ever.

Should i wait until the M1330 will be available at WAL MART and buy it there? it might be faster then waiting for my order that was placed Direct@Dell and has been paid already. I like the new distribution model of Dell2.0

Cheers.

This is sheer unadulterated arrogance! I just do not get it. A huge firm with an excellent reputation like Dell can only gain from being a little more honest. For seeing us as a bunch of ignorant geeks exposes their own ignorance.

Update on my previous comment.

I just phoned the XPS support line (because sales is only available during normal business hours) and stated the Tag of my XPS H2C to get through and tried to figure if my PC is broken or why its so slow (turned out that it was a software problem, uh me bad for phoning the hotline, sorry! :-) )

Anyway during the "troubleshooting" i asked "btw whats up with that M1330 deliveries, i'm waiting for mine and it got delayed the second time now).

And the guy started chatting away that they have difficulties assembling it and that the production process has to be redesigned. I don't believe him, but thats what he told me on the phone, 2 hours ago.

Seriously, that is the 10th (Tenth!) different reason for the delay i heard in 10 times asking.

Could Dell please get their act straight and either tell us one unified lie (and in times of internet, blogs, forums etc the chance is very slim that we will NOT find out that it is a lie, somewhere is always a leak) or Dell could finally starting to tell us the truth.

Ah well i'll see what this Blogs states next week, i have plenty of time to decide wether to cancel my order or not.
