Project Hybrid and Technology Preview in San Francisco

Last week Kevin Kettler, Dell's CTO and Jay Parker, director of Dell PowerEdge servers were in San Francisco to talk to media and bloggers about something we call Project Hybrid. Some of you may have seen some coverage from outlets like eWeek, internetnews.com and Gearlog. Project Hybrid is about simplifying much of the complexity that IT managers face every day—IT infrastructure, power and space requirements, consolidation, software complexity and systems management. You'll hear more about this initiative throughout the year.

This video is 43 minutes long, but if you're interested in technology, it might be worth checking out. Kevin talks through some technologies that we're currently shipping like the H2C liquid cooling solution, solid state disk drives, and he also previews upcoming technology concepts like DisplayPort and Storage Bridge Bay. Jay defines Project Hybrid, and previews our upcoming blade servers.

Display Port offers nothing new - ZILCH - while ensuring that new Dell PC's and monitors won't be interoperable with the old ones. BUNK.

 
What Dell should do migrate us to HDMI.

1) HDMI uses a small connector, just like Display Port.

2) HDMI connects audio and video

3) HDMI is compatible with DVI, so I can plug a DVI PC to an HDMI monitor, or an HDMI PC to an HDMI monitor.

4) HDMI is on 100% of BluRay and HD-DVD players. With HDMI, I can attach a BluRay or HD-DVD player to my Dell monitor.

5) HDMI is on 100% of HD TV sets (for the past several years, at least). With HDMI, I can attach my Dell computer to a high-definition television.

DISPLAY PORT STICKS IT TO THE CONSUMER. A standard digital connector that COULD be on all the TV's and computer monitors would be GREAT. 

Display port gives us nothing new, nothing we can't get with HDMI, while keeping compatibility with our existing DVI products, HDTV's and HD-DVD/BluRay players.

Not quite true as DisplayPort gives you daisy chaining options and fiber as well (longer cables) If thats enough of an incentive to give up audio and the ability to connect it to existing equipment, I may have to agree with you that HDMI is just fine for now, especially after the 1.3a standard was released.

Daisy chaining?!? And how many users would actually want it?!? Do users actually use it?!?

For crying out loud, try getting into actual innovation. That would probably do you some good.
