Side Panels for Gaming Desktop: Which One Do You Like?

If you're a PC gaming enthusiasts and want to have a say in what we offer, please take a look at the latest Lightning Rod (in other words, the top right-hand corner) section of the IdeaStorm main page. We're asking customers to vote on which clear side panel design they like best out of two options for our XPS gaming desktop. We may be starting slowly, but offering our customers a chance to participate in the design process is something we've wanted to do since we first launched IdeaStorm in mid-February.

It took us some time to build additional functionality into IdeaStorm, and we'll continue to evolve it to open up more possibilities. Wanted to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to check out the options and tell us which one you like best. While this is a modest beginning, consider it a sign of things to come.

Voting will start today, and will last until Friday, May 11. The design that gets the most points will be featured in our next-generation XPS gaming desktop. Click this link to cast your vote, and thanks in advance for your participation.

Lionel, it is absolutely exciting to see the changes that are taking place as Dell reaches out to it's customers. From gathering input for future designs, to providing answers to concerns and needs, it is obvious that Dell is listening. Keep up the good work. TPhillips63: your dream is coming true!!! Way to go on the input!!

I actually like the 2nd Concept, with the X logo. It shades the right areas as where the 1st Concept's design, being as open as it is, gives no depth to the pc's interior design. The panel from Concept 1 allows more viewable area towards the rear of the machine, exposing too much rear grill realestate. The 2nd Concept's design shows just the right amount of component presence, while boldly showing off it's intricate side sneer of gaming face. A long awaited transitional move for the pc provider. I have to say in good taste, welcome Dell, welcome to the mass of inspired gamer's alike.

Redesign the plastic panel. DUMP IT ALL TOGETHER! Aluminum, titanium, stainless. A couple of cost dollars more for a lot of class!

As a XPS owner i have to go with the first design it looks so stealth and leathel with the X, the second design is just plain like what you would find in a aftermarket case.

I see that the case has retained the black finish maybe you might consider to add blueray in your next system just a thought. I love the XPS system and the fact that you are getting users to vote how they want it good job dell.

Start by fixing the power button. Geez Dell.

I like number 1 but with a larger window.

How about doing the same for the XPS 400/410 users.

I was going to cut my cover.. hahah

I like option 1, will Dell offer customers a way for us to send our existing covers to be cut or a trade in?

Thanks,

Rick

Lionel,

It seem very obvious that the people have decided on Concept 2.  I would hope Dell would begin to use this information and begin to finalize the next-generation gaming PC (that includes Vista and the new motherboard) for sale very soon.  Any information on these issues would be helpful.

Lionel...

I'm not sure if you will respond to this as I have already sent you this via email once before...

If possible, can you please look into the status of an updated VISTA compatible driver for the 7900Go cards??  nVidia states it is up to the Manufacturer to release updated drivers as they have no plans to support them...

The current Dell driver available for the 7900Go GTX causes screen flashing (especially when using the Vista 'Switch Between Windows' function).  Frame Rates and Max Res are also issues...

I really want to use my XPS M1710 for gaming... but if Dell doesn't come to the rescue with a revised driver - im going back to WinXP.

Incidentally, I voted for Concept 1 - on the case redesign... I like the fact you can see more and the XPS logo internally...

Thanks for looking into the driver issue.

MD's comment -

I second the comment on the m1710 Vista Video drivers - Dell really needs to address this issue.  The current release - February 07 Vista drivers for the m1710 - 32 & 64 bit is not very good.  The screen flickers very bad.  It is very bad if you are on battery which makes the laptop useless!
